Caring is at the heart of our practice at Ararira Springs Primary – Te Puna o Ararira. Manaakitanga, the process of showing respect, generosity, hospitality and caring for others, is a core value of our school. We put children at the centre of our decision making and endeavour to know our learners in order to make the best decisions for their learning. We encourage them to care about each other and the world they live in, aroha (love) is another of our supporting values.

Key ideas for us to focus on came through from our community consultation. These included;

  • developing empathy
  • kindness
  • emotional well-being and intelligence
  • respect
  • looking after self
  • caring for the environment
  • friendship

We will be weaving these ideas through our curriculum.

The following word art is developed from the feedback on ‘caring’ at our community sessions. The size of the word is dependent on the frequency in which it occurred.
