This week the Selwyn District Council are having a focus on road safety. This is timely with the number of accidents in the area recently. Here is a link to a short video on their Facebook page.
Today members of the community patrol group visited. They provided this information prior to their visit.
This coming week is NZ Road Safety Week. It is run by a charity called ‘Brake’ and sponsored by NZ Transport Waka Kotahi and Beca. We would love to come and visit your school on our travels on Wednesday to raise awareness, and also so your children can meet our patrollers and be aware of what we do within the community. We will be in our patrol car, accompanied by our fabulous patrol mascot Ted and also our very unique service dog Sebastian who assists one of our patrollers.
It is also a timely reminder to encourage your children to wear a high-vis vest on their way to and from school. Winter days can be dull and the vest helps them stay visible and seen by motorists.
The board has made the decision to close our car park when it is full on wet days. This will only be for 5-10 minutes to allow cars time to exit and free space for cars to enter safely. Without managing this the carpark becomes blocked and inoperable. If you would like to volunteer to help manage cars and cones, please let us know. Thanks to our wonderful team of road patrollers and teachers managing the crossing and car park helping keep things safe for our tamariki.
We are holding our learning conversations in Week 7. Bookings will open next week and you will be able to have time talking to your child's ako teacher about their wonderful learning. Children are welcome at these hui. More information and a link for booking will be posted next week.

Watch out for this inappropriate text
This book is being promoted on TikTok and a copy was brought to school today by a student. The teacher intercepted the book and quickly discovered very inappropriate and explicit content. The book looks harmless and was purchased at The Warehouse. This is a timely reminder to keep an eye on what your children are viewing online and their reading material. Some Anime graphic novels also have adult-themed content.
