Woosh! Just like that, term 1 is done and dusted. It has been an exciting term with lots on for the tamariki; camp, ice skating, fire and flow, Life Education, Nature agents, sports and celebrations of learning. Thanks to the teachers for planning exciting learning and to parents for putting your hands up to help!
|
|
|
|
The Life Education caravan moves off-site today. All children have completed two lessons with Keri and Harold. These weave seamlessly into our health teaching and a wide variety of topics were covered.
|
One topic of interest, particularly heading into the break, is children's use of the internet. The underlying philosophy when engaging online is that our Ararira values should remain at the forefront of thinking, being caring, curious and capable. Tamariki need to think about how they chat and be kind all the time.
|
|
Keri also shared resources about the age appropriateness of different apps which are widely used. I have shared this for your reference. Tips that are also well followed are ensuring that the screen is seen, this means only using the internet in shared spaces and NOT in their bedrooms. With older children it also pays to check photos, browsing history and chat threads. There is a pdf attachment that we will send home with the newsletter tomorrow, watch your in box.

We look forward to having you all back on Wednesday 26th April. Our team will be at school for planned professional learning on the 21st and 24th April. This will be focussed on structured literacy and the new curriculum. We will welcome new whānau with a mihi whakatau at 9:15 on Thursday 27th April. Please feel free to come down and be part of the welcome.

Student Absence Notifications/Late Arrivals - When late for school, please come and sign your child in at the office before heading to class. This is a safety check for both parents and the school as to a child's whereabouts. If you do not make contact you will receive a text and/or call from school enquiring about your child.

This week we welcome Henry J, Kaitlin, Maia L and Ella R to Huarapa, Donncha to Hikuwai, and Isibéal to Teretere.

We hope you have all settled in, have made some new friends and that you will soon love Ararira as much as we do!
|
|
|
|
|
If you know of families moving into the area or with preschoolers, please encourage them to fill out our online enrolment form soon as possible. This allows us to plan ahead and recruit the teachers we might need!
|
|
|
|
|
With our school numbers growing and more parents coming to pick up children before and after school please think before you park to make sure driveways of our neighbours are clear and you are not parking on yellow lines, to keep our tamariki safe.
|

Second-Hand Uniforms - The THT has a small selection of second-hand uniform items available for purchase. We are also looking to increase our selection and would welcome donations of good-quality uniform items. All profits are used by THT to improve our school and provide resources for our tamariki. Our swimming season has come to an end. We had two swimmers representing us at the Canterbury Swimming competition. Next term's dates for events happening at school and at Zones have been updated and are ready for you to add to your calendars.

We have exciting news, our Ararira bees have been busy and our students from last year and this year have helped to extract the honey from the two Ararira hives. The honey has been harvested and is ready for sale. Our delicious magic gold (honey) was for sale outside the school office this afternoon. If we sell out, you can order honey through our school office.
|
|
|
|
|
Every jar sold helps keep our hives and Bee Awesome lessons cost free to our school. We have kept honey in the hives for the bees over the winter, so the bees are well looked after. Larissa

We have had Life Education here for the past week or so. Some excited tamariki!

We are loving our big vege pod which was generously donated by New World Lincoln last year.
|
We grew plants indoors last year and now Huarapa tamariki are trying some different seeds outside.
|
