It feels like winter has arrived with a bang in recent weeks. Just a reminder for the kids to layer up and they are welcome to wear a navy polyprop or merino under their uniform. We have a lovely uniform and encourage children to wear it with pride. Please support your children to wear the correct items to school.
|
|
|
|
You will have seen the work that is taking place around the main gates. The new gate mechanism has a red button that needs to be pressed before the latch is lifted. Please encourage older students to exit with their bikes and scooters via the car park gate. This will leave the front gate for pedestrians. The Selwyn Council road safety team has provided a video reminder of taking care on icy mornings.

A huge thank you for changing behaviour and using the kiss and go for pick-up and drop-offs. We really do appreciate your support. The flow in the car park is a million times better. We are in liaison with the council to look at training some parents to support children crossing to the island on Southfield Drive. We will be advertising for this role shortly.
|
Just a wee bit further down from the island there was an event yesterday. Thanks to Jess Banfield for being a responder to this event. Children were wonderful walking past but they were curious. If your child walked that way please reassure them that the elderly gentleman in the accident was okay. He had hit a parked car while on his bike and needed to be checked due to being more senior.
|
We are excited to be acknowledging Matariki publically for the very first time. We can't wait to celebrate with you all NEXT Friday night. A HUGE thank you to Te Hapori Tautoko for the work they are doing to make this celebration such a significant and memorable event on the Ararira calendar.

Household Battery Recycling
|
If you have any small household batteries (see this link for what is accepted) and are unable to drop off at New World Lincoln, feel free to drop them at the school office and Justine will take them to the New World collection point on your behalf.

Congratulations
Congratulations to Reuben and Amelia who have made the music festival representative groups this year. Over 530 children auditioned.
|
Reuben has been selected for percussion in the concert band and Amelia in the senior choir.
|
|
A huge achievement and we are very proud of them.
|

Argyle Uniform Price Increase
|
Argyle have just advised us there will soon be a price increase. This will apply to all orders delivered after the 1st of July 2022.

School Board News
You will know from previous newsletters that Board elections will be held later in the year. We will shortly be calling for nominations for the Board. If this is something that interests you please talk to a current Board member. You are also welcome to attend the next Board meeting to get a feel for how things are run. It is likely that at least two of our current members will not be standing for re-election.

Sports Corner
There is a lot going on in the sports arena and a huge thank you to Whaea Meeghan for her organisation. Today Sky, Liam, Ryan and Janie represented the school at the Canterbury Cross Country Champs at Ngā Puna Wai. There were 1400 children competing, with it being the biggest cross-country event in New Zealand. Our team did themselves proud both competing and their support of each other. Janie placed mid-way in her race, Ryan and Liam were in the 30s and Sky came in 14th! Each race had roughly 150 runners.

Sports coming up
|
Tomorrow we have children taking part in a zone hockey and football competition and wish them well. Next week Whaea Charlotte is taking a group of girls to a girl's multi-sport event and in the last week of term, we have three teams competing in a basketball competition at the Selwyn complex, busy times!

Te Hapori Tautoko (THT) - providing opportunities to tautoko (support) and connect our school community and fundraising for school initiatives and resources.

Our next meeting will be our Thursday August 4th, 7pm in Putahi. We would love to see you there. We always welcome new people.

The THT has a small selection of second hand uniform available for purchase. We are looking to increase our selection and would welcome donations of good quality uniform items. All profits are used by THT to improve our school and provide resources for our tamariki. Mana Ake - Tuning into Kids
During Term 3, Mana Ake will be offering Tuning into Kids. Tuning into Kids is a six-session programme designed for parents/ caregivers of 4-12 years old. The purpose of the programme is to teach parents awareness and regulation of their own emotions and their children's emotions; to use children's emotional experiences as an opportunity for closeness and teaching; skills in assisting children to verbally label and manage their emotions; skills in assisting children to problem solve; to guide children's behaviour with appropriate limits.
