Connect Communication

10 December 2025

Kia ora Whānau,

Thanks so much for your patience while we finalised the class placements this week. Yesterday we hosted successful transition visits for many students and were able to host our new teachers for the first time. We are pleased to welcome Abigail Sykes to the Year 4/5 teaching team in 2026.
This afternoon, we are celebrating leadership with our ākonga. They will be receiving certificates to acknowledge their leadership and service. Our leaders are able to accrue hours of service and earn bronze, silver and gold rangatiratanga badges. We are excited to be presenting our first silver badges today.

Last weekend I had the pleasure of attending the Tuhono Kapa haka at the Christchurch Town Hall. Our performance rōpu did an exceptional job and we were very proud to see them perform. Special thanks to Steve Hira for working with the group and the support provided by Matua Dan, Matua Michael, Whaea Sarah and Whaea Larissa.
Final Day Plans
Our last day for 2025 is Wednesday 17th December and school will finish at 1pm. We are finishing the day with a graduation hui at 12pm. Due to limited seating priority is given to parents of children leaving Ararira this year. The school will then form a guard of honour for the Year 8 students. Young children will return to their classroom for collection.

I would like to extend my thanks to the incredibly dedicated and hardworking team at Ararira. Every person in every role comes to school to serve and do their best for your children. We have an amazing team, and we are very lucky. Once again, our special thanks to Whaea Emma, Whaea Kim and Whaea Sarah for teaching our children this year. They are moving on to the next chapter of their lives and we are glad that Ararira played a part. Thanks go to Kate, Mel, Kirsten, Charlotte and Alison for providing release and support to our teachers.

We wish you a safe and happy holiday with your whānau. I am very excited to be heading to Samoa with my husband for 10 days. I plan to read, relax and recharge. Thank you for your support throughout the year. We look forward to continuing to work with you in 2026.

Ngā mihi,
Claire and the team
