Connect Communication
08 February 2023
We have had a lovely few days at school and it has been wonderful to welcome back both new and old friends to Ararira. We started the term with a gorgeous mihi whakatau and morning tea for all our new students and their whānau.

You may have noticed the bright, white markings in the carpark that appeared over the break. A huge thanks to Higgins, who with the help of Neil Andrews made this happen for the school. This allows us to redirect funds to other projects and illustrates Higgins modelling our mission - it starts with me. For those of you using Facebook, here is a link to the post.

Our values focus at the moment is caring. We talked in hui about being the 'nice kid' and what caring looks, feels and sounds like in the playground. Children said, " It looks like children playing together and not being left out", "children might say, hi play with us and we would hear laughter."

Make sure that you put aside to come to school on Weds 15th February for our Hoolie with the Hapori. This is essentially a school picnic with times set aside for you to pop into the hubs | hapori to see how things will be running this year and meet the teaching team in the hapori | hub.
Our schedule for the evening is;
- 5:30-6 Huarapa (Year 1)
- 6-6:30 Kaunuku (Year 2/3)
- 6:30-7 Hikuwai (Year 4-6)
- 7-7:30 Teretere (Year 7/8)
It will be great to see you there and start to get back together as a school community.
On Feb 28th NZEI is hosting another round of paid union meetings for teachers in the area. This time there is only one option for our team to attend and this is at West Melton at 2 pm. We will provide supervision for any families who need it. As there will be minimal staff on site to do this, we ask that if you can, you pick your child up early at 1 pm. Please fill in this form for each child to assist us in our planning. We do appreciate this is less than ideal but need to support our teachers in their quest for better conditions.
It has been wonderful to see you all back at school this week with big smiles. We look forward to all the wonderful learning that is ahead.

A friendly reminder about being Sun Smart. It is compulsory to wear a navy blue full-brim sunhat in terms 4 and 1 (no caps please). No hat = no play (tamariki will sit in a shady area instead).

Using Our Kiss and Go
We would like to provide some clarification on the use of the Kiss and Go area. This is designed for you to pull in and out of rather than park. For it to flow we try and encourage you to come a little later so the children can be waiting for you to pick them up. Here is a video provided by the Selwyn District Council as our carpark was their design.
Our challenge arises when trying to access the kiss-and-go area when it is filled with cars. We can't have you waiting and blocking the entrance to the car park at the top of the drive. If this occurs we ask you to circle around and enter the driveway again.
Please be patient, our staff are trying to help this area flow. If you have grandparents picking up your children we ask you to remind them not to park in this area. Do consider coming a little later. The car park is virtually empty by 3:10 pm.
