Yesterday Ararira hosted 250 educators from our Kāhui Ako for a one day conference. It was a wonderful day with a focus on culturally responsive practice. Participants were treated to a provocative speaker and then an array of workshops across the day. It was wonderful to have all the teachers coming together and learning from each other.

|
You will have seen that we have had the start of some minor building projects start. This will mean we have to be adaptive over the coming weeks. Work is being carried out on the fence line and then there will be changes to both the main gates over the coming weeks. This will mean that each gate will be out of operation for a period of time. We will also have to relocate the parking of bikes and scooters while work is being carried out. It is likely these will be kept by the hall shed and children will access the area via the gate by the side of the hall.

This may well contribute to the chaos we are experiencing at the school gate at the moment. It may be time to start rethinking your pick up plans. As the school grows we are experiencing congestion in the 'kiss and drop' area. Please note that this is NOT an area for parking. The idea is that you come into this area, pick up your children and exit, all within a few moments.
|
If you need to park you will need to do so either in the school car park or a short distance from the school and allow yourself time to get to the grounds to meet your children. We ask that you do not leave your vehicle in the kiss and go area. For the next while, we will have staff helping with the flow of the area and ask that you comply with their requests. If your children are a wee bit older, you could consider organising a different pick up point or delaying your pick up until after 3:10pm.

As indicated below, we are experiencing a range of illnesses at school. This was predicted with a decrease in our natural immunity due to being isolated. Thanks for keeping unwell children at home.

Learning comments are currently being written. These will be published on Hero over coming weeks and graphs to show progress will be turned on in the last week of school. We look forward to hosting you for learning conversations in the first week of Term 3. As always, if you need to see a teacher before then, the door is always open.

As well as Covid, there are many coughs, colds, sniffles, and tummy bugs circulating at the moment, so keeping your child home if they are unwell helps minimise the spread of these illnesses.
|
|

If you are sick and need to test for Covid, please feel free to send someone who is not sick to the office to collect a kit. We have a good supply here for school whānau and staff use, and they are FREE to order via Kindo.

School Board News

NEXT MEETING - 22 June, 6.30pm in the Staffroom

You will know from previous newsletters that Board elections will be held later in the year. We will shortly be calling for nominations for the Board. If this is something that interests you please talk to a current Board member. You are also welcome to attend the next Board meeting to get a feel for how things are run. It is likely that at least two of our current members will not be standing for re-election.

Te Hapori Tautoko (THT) News
Te Hapori Tautoko (THT) - providing opportunities to tautoko (support) and connect our school community and fundraising for school initiatives and resources.
|
Our next meeting (AGM) will be 15 June, 7pm in Putahi. We would love to see you there. We always welcome new people.

SECOND HAND UNIFORMS

The THT has a small selection of second hand uniform available for purchase. We are looking to increase our selection and would welcome donations of good quality uniform. All profits are used by THT to improve our school and provide resources for our tamariki.
