Connect Communication

3rd November 2021

Kia ora Whānau,

Week 3 of the term is now nearly done and dusted as we focus our sights on all the end of year activities and plans for how these might be impacted by being in level 2.

One of the first jobs is establishing how the school will be structured and this is a challenge in a growing area. We envisage the following;
Hikuwai: Year 5-8 (with a handful of Year 4s) will have 5 classes, two Year 7/8 classes, two Year 5/6 classes and one Year 4/5 class.
Kaunuku: Year 3/4 - three classes and home to Kelly Club
Teretere: Year 1/2 (one Year 1/2 class and two Year 2s)
Huarapa: Year 0/1 - starting the year with three Year 1 classes.

The next challenge is to confirm the placement of teachers and then place children.

COVID-19-Update

Health Order and Implications for Staff and Whanau

At 11.59 pm on Monday 25 October, the COVID-19 Public Health Response Order for Mandatory Vaccinations for Education came into effect. Everyone who works or volunteers for a school who may have contact with children or students or will be present at a time when children and students are also present must have had a first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine by 15 November and be fully vaccinated by 1 January 2022.

The vaccination requirements apply wherever face to face schooling occurs, such as on the school site, but also at school camps, swimming pools, museums, or where other education outside the classroom (EOTC) programmes take place. This means that we are only allowed to allow people to help at school events with children if they have had at least their first dose by 16 November, and are fully vaccinated by 1 January 2022.

If you wish to be involved as a helper in any events after 16 November, please complete this short form so we can store evidence of your vaccination status. You can either upload the evidence in the place provided or bring it into school if you prefer When school starts next year, we will need evidence of full vaccination by 1 January for any school helpers. We will store your information privately in our school database. The requirements do not apply to people who are just visiting the school, such as for a learning conference or a parent, whānau and community evening. At level 2, the wearing of masks would still be encouraged.

Welcome to Te Puna o Ararira

2022 CAMPS - SAVE THE DATE

You will shortly receive a notice about our planned camps for Term 1 next year. As mentioned above, a requirement for helping is a Police Vet and full vaccination. In order to see if the dates work for you as helpers they are as follows;
  • Year 5/6 head to Living Springs in Week 3 from 16 - 18 February
  • Year 7/8 head to Tekapo in Week 5 from 2-4 March

SCHOOL BOARD NEWS

The school board met for the first time this term on the 27th of October. We were pleased to confirm new staffing appointments to the school for 2022.

QUIZ NIGHT - 5th November 2021

Great news - Quiz is happening at Level 2!
Doors open at 6.30, event starts at 7.30

We need help
We’re after 2-4 more helpers for Quiz Night 2021. Ideally from 6.10pm till late-ish.
It’s such a fun night, and helpers can buy raffle tickets, bid in auctions etc.
The actual helping involves waiting on around 3 tables, bringing them drinks and selling raffle and choc wheel tickets. Also taking their answer sheets up at the end of each round. What a wonderful way to connect with our community and support our major fundraiser!!!
If you’re interested, please email tht@ararira.school.nz, or speak to Fran Fitchett, Sarah Fogarty or Sharyn Kilgour Lloyd - Thank you!

What are we fundraising for?
This is our major fundraiser for the year. All proceeds will go towards a new astro-turf play area for the school.

What about COVID?
The event will include Quiz, Auctions, Raffles, etc, but we can’t do the Disco we were planning for the end under Level 2. Here is the full list of precautions we are taking to enable us to run the event at Level 2:
COVID Precautions for Quiz Night

Checklist for attendees:
  • Please do not attend if you are unwell
  • Masks for all team members (these will be compulsory at all times except when you’re seated at your table)
  • Theme your team to win Best Dressed Team
  • Glasses for anyone drinking wine (decorated if you want to be in to win best wine glass)
  • Wine / Beer / Cider pre-ordered on Kindo (this will reduce congestion at the bar which will help us to comply with Level 2 restrictions)
  • Review the Auction list (has been emailed to team captains) and set some $ aside for bidding!
On the night
  • Scan the QR code and sanitise when you enter
  • Your table is your bubble. Stay at least 1 meter away from other guests where possible
All tickets will be refunded if the event is cancelled. Any questions email tht@ararira.school.nz

You can also stay up to date by following the Ararira Springs Online Whanau page on Facebook.
Quiz Night is on the Events tab.
