Newsletter - 15 May 2019

Kia ora Whanau,

Welcome to week three now that we are officially opened! Last week's opening was a wonderful event and thanks to those of you who could make it. More information is in the blog post below.

Glynn Davies was onsite taking photos today. The children looked smart and happy and we look forward to being able to share these with you soon.

You will have heard in the media about the proposed nationwide mega strike in Weds 29th May. The Board will decide to close the school. The chance of strike action is high so in preparation, Kelly Club will be open for families who are impacted. It is with a heavy heart that teacher's strike. There is a lot of misinformation in the media. The core issues are pay and condition parity with our secondary colleagues, making teaching an attractive and valued profession for graduates (to address retention and shortages) and support for our vulnerable learners.

Facebook is a great forum for sharing snippets. We appreciate that many of you may not use social media so are endeavouring to explore other options. Links to Facebook and the class blogs can be found via our website. We like to think of these as a window into school and the learning spaces.

During 2018, many of you participated in workshops to look at our local curriculum. We would love some more input on our curriculum and invite you to a session on Tuesday 28th May at 7pm. This will be held in the library, or if we have high interest, the hall. Please RSVP to Trine, trine.spence@ararira.school.nz to help us with planning. We look forward to building on the wonderful work from last year and sharing with you where we are at.

If you read this as it arrives we might see you at our PTA - Friends of the School - yet to be named group. We are meeting tonight at 7pm in Pūtahi.

Have a great week,
Claire and the Ararira Springs Team
