Connect Communication

5th May 2021

Kia ora e te whānau,

Welcome back to Term 2 and all the excitement that brings. We trust that you had a wonderful time during the term break. I spent some of the time organising things for our new house, working from home allowed the freedom to do that so was fantastic.

We kick off the term supporting the council's 'active autumn' campaign. Here we encourage children to get to school by walking, scootering and biking in their vest. They will be then allowed to put a stamp on a card. 10 stamps allow one entry into the draw for a scooter and helmet. There are other donated prizes to be won for contributing to a range of initiatives.

We have broadened the brief of the road patroller and made them a traffic safety team. You will see the team in their orange vests promoting safety by monitoring the kiss and drop area, acknowledging children wearing vests and doing road patrol.

There are a lot of activities planned for the term so please keep abreast of things with the community calendar (now linked to the Hero app) and team blogs.

Thanks to the parents who contributed their brainpower to the development of behaviour expectations. I have compiled this work during the break and this will form the basis of a tool that we use with the children. Thanks also to the parents who have put their hands up to coach our Year 7 and 8 students. We look forward to kicking this off in the next few weeks.

Ngā mihi,
Claire and the Ararira Team

The St John Cadet Programme has a focus on first aid, healthcare, leadership, and general life skills. Cadets are the largest group within St John Youth. Since the programme is for all young people aged 8 to 18, cadets are grouped into various levels for training, competitions, events, camps, and even social activities. We also have many mixed activities for senior cadets to take the lead and provide role models for junior cadets to aspire to. Lincoln Division is looking for more cadets (especially Penguins who are our 6-8-year-olds). If you are interested, we would love for you to come along to a Divisional Evening on Mondays from 6 pm until 7:30 pm at 530 Birchs Rd (the Lincoln Baptist Church Youth Hall).
Kind regards,
Isabel Van Tuinen
