Connect Communication

15th April 2021

Kia ora e te whānau,

This is an extra issue as we head towards the term break. There were a few things that cropped up and we thought it best to put them into one email rather than bombard you with several.

The term break is fast upon us and it will be time for teachers and children to rest and recover, ready for term two. I always look forward to picking up a book to read. One that I have on the go at the moment is Breath by James Nestor. This is a great read about the power of breathing properly, I thoroughly recommend it. Please encourage older children to read independently over the break. One trick I suggest is trading time reading for time online. If your children are younger there is nothing better than snuggling in to read together.
Book Lovers
Thanks to all of you who were able to make our learning celebrations in Hikuwai and Huarapa. The children love to share their learning with their significant adults and learning is reinforced when it is discussed.

A huge thanks to the teaching and support team as we head towards the break. Time for teachers to fill their buckets so they are ready to support our akonga in Term 2.

Sophia and Georgia and their family, moving to Ararira from Auckland. We hope you settle in well and made some new friends and that you will soon love Ararira as much as we do!

Bricks 4 Kidz - After School Club

Kia ora all dear parents,

After meeting all the lovely children from Ararira Springs Primary a couple of weeks ago, the team at Bricks4Kidz is excited to bring our Lego Afterschool Enrichment Programme - Junior Robotics to Ararira Springs Primary for term 2. Our programme consists of nine different exciting topics and themes.

Bricks4Kidz is a children’s Enrichment Programme teaching all aspects of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics (STEAM). We offer after-school classes that provide educational play with Lego in a fun, non-competitive environment bringing a new project each week based on an overall theme for the term. Our trained teachers grow student’s general knowledge leading interactive discussions relating to
the Master Build of the day.

As we enter the world of learning with Lego, we will run our class once a week for a total time of 1.5 hours. We will learn how to relate the concepts of STEAM to our Master Build and after completion, we will send a code to our Master Build. Upon completing your code to your Master Build, watch as it spins, flips, and
moves in every direction possible while making noise and changing colours! Bring a buddy along and enjoy the challenge of working as a team to complete the greatest Master Build yet! You will learn everything from gears, torque and friction, to robotics and MUCH more! From initial discussions and concepts, the children see all the way through to hands-on fun completion. We explore the principles of engineering, architecture, physics and more. For more information, head to our website: bricks4kidz.co.nz/christchurch-north-west/

Kowhai Trees

A huge thank you to the Andrews Family for their donation of kowhai trees grown from seed and transferred to Ararira. Jamie, Jimmy and Jacob planted these this afternoon and it will be a delight watching them grow.

Lunchtime Fun

This week lunchtimes were filled with different activities; kite flying, remote control cars, wheels and Go Noodle in the hall. Thanks to our Whakatipu Kaihautu and Whaea Danielle and Whaea Donna for organising these fun events.
