2nd December 2020

Kia ora Whānau

It feels like the final countdown now with ten teaching days until the end of the school year. I am sure I am not alone in saying that we are looking forward to seeing the back of 2020. It is time to turn our thoughts turn to 2021 and all that it holds.

First on your family's minds might be ako teachers and classes for 2021. We were slower with our appointments this year as we had to wait for an increase in staffing from the MOE before we could make appointments. We are pleased to share that we are welcoming two new teachers to the Ararira team. Megan Newton and Danielle Donehue will be ako teachers in 2021 and Leonie Pengelly will job share with Chloe as Chloe takes on an across school leader role for the kahui ako. More information about these wonderful kaiako can be found on the teaching team page of the website.

We are currently finalising class placements and will share these with you on Weds next week. Until then we can share the teams for 2021 and where these teams will be located. Kelly Club and music will be located in Teretere.

This Friday please be sure to log into your Hero account as we will turn on graphs and charts and publish all final comments for the year. It will be wonderful to share with you the progress that learners have made. Thank you to the teaching team for their hard work in writing comments to share with you.

As mentioned in the 'dates to diary' section, we welcome you to school for our final hui of the year at 2 pm on Monday 14th December. We will start the afternoon with a shared lunch and a chance for children to share with you an example of learning they are particularly proud of. Our final hui will be the chance to farewell our Year 8 students and hear our Kapa Haka perform.

Thank you for your ongoing support, we will have one final and brief panui on the final day of school.

UPDATE FROM THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES

Firstly, we would like to take this opportunity to thank Te Hapori Tautoko for their hard work and organisation of the quiz night this term. It was a great night and an excellent fundraiser for the school. Thank you also to the businesses and parent community that supported this event. THT is a team of committed volunteers who give their time and energy to creating events that can be enjoyed by the children and wider community and we are very grateful for their continued creativity and efforts.

This term the school has welcomed a team from the Education Review Office (ERO) who are undertaking an assurance review. The purpose of this review is to provide assurance that the school is operating in accordance with the vision articulated by the board of trustees and that the school is well placed to provide for all students. The completed ERO report will be a public document and will evaluate and report on:
  • the quality of systems established to monitor and report on how well students are learning
  • how effective the school’s curriculum is likely to be in promoting and supporting student learning
  • how well the school is likely to meet the needs of learners who are at high risk of poor outcomes
  • how well placed the school is to sustain and improve its performance.
The Board would like to congratulate Whaea Claire for her appointment to the Kāhui Ako Lead Principal. This appointment was made by an independent adviser assessing against national criteria for leadership practice. This is a role that Whaea Claire will undertake in conjunction with her Principalship at Ararira Springs and will involve leading collaborative work and continuing to strengthen partnerships with our community of schools (Lincoln High, Lincoln Primary, Ladbrooks, Springston, Prebbleton, Tai Tapu and Broadfield school).

We also welcome two new teachers to our staff for 2021 - Megan Newton and Danielle Donehue. We look forward to you starting next year. To all of our current teaching and support staff, thank you all so much for your continued care and support of our tamariki. There have been some particularly challenging times this year and you have continued to show commitment and care towards the learning and wellbeing of the children and their families in your classes.

Finally, the Board would like to extend our thanks to the community for the continued support of the children and the school. We hope that you all get to enjoy some rest and relaxation over the summer break and look forward to a positive start to 2021.
