Like many of you, I am waiting for the decision about strike action from the teachers union, NZEI. If this goes ahead this is likely to be Thursday 16th March. The Board will decide if the school will be closed. As soon as we hear we will advise you of plans through Hero.

This week has been very busy as I have been away from school for my role on the Canterbury Primary Principal Association executive and will be attending professional learning for the rest of the week. I hope I have some interesting information to share in our next panui | newsletter.

Our values focus for the past few weeks has been a look at curiosity. This is represented by the poutama design, steps representing asking questions and seeking answers. Many aspects of our practice are anchored in our value of curiosity; play, inquiry, and curiosity clubs. In hui, on Friday we looked at this fantastic wee book linking curiosity to creativity.
One wonderful example of curiosity came from one of our learners, Seth. His curiosity is reflected in his creative photography and we are excited to be able to share this with you. We hope it inspires creativity and curiosity in others.

Infectious Diseases
To stop sickness from spreading, it is important for you to keep your child at home when they are ill, and not let them go to school. How long they should be home depends on what illness they have.
When your child catches an illness, there will be an incubation period before they show symptoms. Some illnesses are infectious before symptoms show; some are infectious even after symptoms have disappeared.
The Infectious Diseases table from the Manatū Hauora/Ministry of Health website describes the symptoms and exclusion periods for some common childhood illnesses including tummy bugs, skin conditions, and respiratory infections.
