Connect Communication

04 June 2025

Kia ora koutou,

As many of you will remember, I have been granted a sabbatical this year. I have chosen to take that in two five week blocks. My next five weeks begins on Monday and I will be handing the reins back to Emma. Please reach out to her if you need anything.
Design Jam
Last week, we held the second of our Design Jams with Adrian from Botanic. Thank you to the parents who came along and joined the enviro leaders in thinking about the future of our site. It was an exciting time. I will create a display in the office by the end of the week to share our thinking with you.
Property Update
It was exciting to share the news we received last week about the progression of stage 2. We don't have any further news to share but will keep you updated in future 'click to connects'. At this stage we are expecting to have access to Pūrei 3 and 4 for Term 3.

Reporting at Ararira
A reminder that teachers are currently assessing your child's levels in reading, writing and maths using the NEW curricula. Emma shared a parent update. It is linked below, but in case you missed it, here is a link. It is important to note the change in expectations from the old to new documents. In short, there is a lift in expectations.

Rotary Cans for a Cause
In line with our mission, 'māku e whakatika - it starts with me', we will take part in the Rotary can drive for the local food bank. Please support by bringing in a can and dropping it in the classroom. Student leaders will gather the cans and bring them to the office. Rotary aim to gather 1 million cans across the country. Details in the poster below.
Board Elections
Soon we will be calling for nominations for the school board. Elections will be held in September. We are hosting two sessions with Tom Scollard who will talk about the role and process. These will be held in the staffroom at 2:30 and 6:15pm on Thursday 24th July. If you are interested, diary the date to get the information you will need.

I have loved being back these past five weeks and look forward to connecting with you all next term. Until then,

Ngā mihi nui,
Claire and the team

Our Matariki Celebration is fast approaching!

For those who are not aware, this free event is on Friday 13 June from 530-7pm at the school. All whānau are welcome to come along, and some of our fantastic activities include: biscuit decorating, star dome gazing, sausage sizzle, Kapa Haka performance, marshmallow toasting and much, much more!

Thank you to everyone who has "purchased" free tickets through Kindo - this really does help us with understanding how many whānau will be attending. If you haven't done this through Kindo yet, and are planning on coming along, please do so. We also have quite a few Hangi tickets still available - these can be purchased through Kindo as well for $5.

We are on the lookout for approximately 20 hay bales if anyone has any that they can provide. These will only be used for seating, so we are happy to return them to you after the event.

We still need some volunteers to help out with the sausage sizzle, the glow station, and to supervise some activities in the hall. Please help us make this event a success and volunteer for a shift.

Please contact Katie Browning if you can help out at katiebrowning90@gmail.com.

Football and Hockey Competition
The Zones football and hockey competition will be held at Selwyn Sports Centre on 13 June 2025.

Thank you to the parents who have volunteered to coach and manage on the day. We are still looking for a coach/manager for our ASP Blue football team. If you can assist, please let me know as soon as possible.

Sports Outside of Ararira Springs
Many of our tamariki take part in sports and activities outside of school. Thank you to those parents who send pictures of their children taking part in the different codes. These pictures are then added to our sports display in the office. If you have any photos you would like displayed, please send them to meeghan.herbert@ararira.school.nz.

Congratulations!
Well done to Alex in Kaunuku 1, who participated in her first competitive rhythmic gymnastics competition for this season in Wellington. We are proud of you, Alex!
Don’t forget to check out our “What’s coming up?” page on the Sports Website.
